Logo Design Portfolio

This section of my portfolio focuses on logos that I have designed either as paid work or for my own projects. They were created using Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop
For some logos, I intend to talk a little about the design process and the brief given to me before I began. The rest will simply be a gallery of images.

| Bradford Maroons Basketball Team. |
 |
| Brief: Design a sporty, basketball oriented logo that featured the team's name and colours. At a later date, the team then specified that they wanted the slogan 'youth development thru sports' added to the logo in order to promote their youth programme.
Creation: Having first designed a box shaped logo (see below right), I decided that the incorporation of the slogan required a letterbox shaped logo. With this approach chosen, I selected the team's colours and began to search for suitable fonts. I tried to stick to similar fonts to those used by U.S. NBA teams in order to generate a basketball vibe.
I chose to surround most of the text with a nifty border in order to keep the eye flow moving, as without the box, the text seems a little lost. As you can see, the border then becomes a hand holding a basketball so there can be no doubt that this is a basketball team.

(Left) The Maroons also specified that they would like a team mascot, to appeal to their younger players. When they approached me they had already sketched some initial ideas, upon which I could expand.
Although this version is unfinished (as I am awaiting photos of the team strip and boots), the character contains the team colours and the requested basketball head. One addition I made was the character's hair in the shape of an 'M'.
I kept the design fairly simple, as they are hoping to incorporate an animated version into their website.

| (Above) This was the initial design. Following discussion, Maroons youngsters did not like the shape of this 'M'. As noted earlier, this logo was abandoned in favour of a letterbox shape to allow the inclusion of the slogan. |

| Mighty Gully Youth Project. |
 |
| Brief: Design a logo that embodies the work undertaken in the Mighty Gully Youth Project (carving.) Ensure that the organisation's full name is included.
Creation: This was perhaps the easiest logo design process I have ever encountered. A simpler version of this was the first design I came up with. As luck would have it, the client had just arrived to discuss some website work with a colleague, remarked that he really liked the design and 'could he have that one?'
The head graphic is a 2D adaptation of one of the sculptures carved by the client. I chose it due to its interesting look and clean lines. It was approved by the client and incorporated into the logo.
Another feature of this logo is that its arc leads the eye around and through the text.
