Singled Out
Lyrics

Well I was in on my own on a cold winter night

At a loss for what to do

Ignore the wind and the rain, it’ll be alright

It’ll all be over soon

-

MAYBE I’M DESTINED

TO LIVE MY WHOLE LIFE IN SCORN

MAYBE THE BEST THING

IS TO FORGET I WAS BORN

AND ONLY THE LONELY

EVER GET SINGLED OUT

BUT NOBODY KNOWS WHY

OR WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT

-

I could be down at the pub right now playing pool

Drinking beer, and acting the goat

But I ain’t got any friends cos I’m so uncool

I’ve got a feeling I’ve missed the boat

-

MAYBE I’M DESTINED

TO LIVE MY WHOLE LIFE ALONE

MAYBE THE BEST THING

IS TO SPEND MY TIME AT HOME

COS ONLY THE LONELY

EVER GET SINGLED OUT

BUT NOBODY KNOWS WHY

OR WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT

-

I got, on the bus into town one day

And people stared, with utter contempt

I tried not seeing their inner voices

But I understood what they meant

-

MAYBE I’M DESTINED

TO BE AN OUTCAST ‘TIL I DIE

MAYBE THE BEST THING

IS TO STAY IN BED AND HIDE

COS ONLY THE LONELY

EVER GET SINGLED OUT

BUT NOBODY KNOWS WHY

OR WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT

Lowdown

Sorry to have to bring the tone down, but this is a very melancholy song about feeling worthless and isolated.

When I wrote Singled Out, I was going through a period in my life where I felt that I was being punished for wanting to be myself. Supposed friends were distant and I felt like everyone was judging me negatively.
