Slippery Sunday
Lyrics

Haven’t you noticed?

There’s one day in the week when you’re bored

And fall asleep in the daytime

Haven’t you seen it?

Between keeping occupied and going right out of your mind

There’s a fine line

-

WELL IT’S A SLIPPERY SUNDAY

THERE’S NOTHING TO DO NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

COME ON THERE’S GOTTA BE SOME WAY

TO KEEP US AMUSED NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

It’s a Slippery Sunday

Thank God, it’s only for one day

Any longer and I’d go insane

WELL IT’S A SLIPPERY SUNDAY

IT CAN’T END TOO SOON NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

I THINK I’M HAVING MY BRAIN DRAINED

NEED SOMETHING NEW NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

-

Haven’t you wanted

To lose the day of rest? I really think it might be best

If we did so

Haven’t you thought it?

Sunday leaves you wanting more, you never wanted it before

But you do now

-

WELL IT’S A SLIPPERY SUNDAY

THERE’S NOTHING TO DO NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

COME ON THERE’S GOTTA BE SOME WAY

TO KEEP US AMUSED NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

It’s a Slippery Sunday

Thank God, it’s only for one day

Any longer and I’d go insane

WELL IT’S A SLIPPERY SUNDAY

IT CAN’T END TOO SOON NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

I THINK I’M HAVING MY BRAIN DRAINED

NEED SOMETHING NEW NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

-

Haven’t you wondered?

Why the hours seem to crawl? You’ve seen it once, you’ve seen it all

It’s so tedious

Haven’t you mumbled?

I might as well go back to bed; there’s nothing else to do instead

It’s so boring

-

Y’KNOW IT’S DRIVING ME CRAZY

I’M OFF FOR A SNOOZE NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

JUST WHY IS FUN SO EVASIVE?

SUNDAY AFTERNOON NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

-

COS IT’S A SLIPPERY SUNDAY

IT’S ALL DOOM AND GLOOM NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

I REALLY WISH IT WERE MONDAY

LET'S BREAK THE TABOO NOW YEAH YEAH YEAH

-

IT’S A SLIPPERY SUNDAY

THANK GOD IT’S ONLY FOR ONE DAY

I confess, I pinched the title for this one. Not the lyrics however, they're all my own.

A friend of mine - stand up Noel Horner - had written a song called Slippery Sunday. I haven't a clue what it was about, since I never read it, but I liked the title and decided to write a song based on that title.

So, Slippery Sunday refers to the slippery slope of boredom that sundays often bring about. There's a load of rubbish on the telly, everyone's busy gardening, sunbathing, snoozing or doing the ironing, and it's so mind-numbingly boredom inducing that you want to say 'bollocks to this, let's do something exciting instead'. Either that or fall asleep, depends on whether you think you can stomach something exciting.
