Wake Up Next To You

Lyrics

When the morning light and dark are merging

And the traffic is converging

Down the road

When the bed is warm I hear you breathing

Know you’re worth it, feel I’m needed

And I know

-

I WANNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

I WANNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

GOT SO MUCH RESPECT FOR YOU

ALL I EXPECT FROM YOU

IS WHEN I RISE

AND THE SUN HITS MY EYES

I'M GONNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

-

I should be up, I should be moving

The alarm clock isn’t working

Got to go

There is a join, somewhere between us

You can’t see it though it’s seamless

And I know

-

I WANNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

I WANNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

GOT SO MUCH RESPECT FOR YOU

ALL I EXPECT FROM YOU

IS WHEN I RISE

AND THE SUN HITS MY EYES

I'M GONNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

-

I’ve got responsibility

Avoiding work, won’t help me

But there’s nothing else I’d rather do

Than lie in bed next to you, next to you, next to you

-

I WANNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

I WANNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

GOT SO MUCH RESPECT FOR YOU

ALL I EXPECT FROM YOU

IS WHEN I RISE

AND THE SUN HITS MY EYES

I'M GONNA WAKE UP NEXT TO YOU

Lowdown

The great thing about the 'night before' is that it's followed by the morning after, when you get to wake up next to someone you care about and lay there in the cosy morning haze.

It's weird but when your senses are only half awake, you seem to notice things more - noises from outside, the gentle rhythmic breathing of the person next to you, the sunlight creating a halo over the top of the curtains, the smell of the coffee you just made as it rests, steaming on the bedside cabinet.

For me, it's a definition of bliss, and even though there's more than likely something I have to get up and do, I'm quite happy to stay there and forget about it, because everything I'll ever need in terms of emotional fulfilment is in that bed.
